Study Background

Wearables is an R01 funded clinical trial at Massachusetts General Hospital in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University.

This trial is registered with the National Institutes of Health under NCT04824066

Our team is interested in how biometric data collected from personal wearable devices, such as a Fitbit, can be used to understand physiological processes associated with post-surgery recovery and complications after surgery.

Our goal is to build an algorithm that can predict post-operative complications PRIOR to the start of symptoms in cardiothoracic surgery patients.

Participation

Wearables participants are asked to wear their Fitbit during the day and night for about a week prior to surgery and 90-days after surgery. At the 90-day mark, participants have the option to keep the watch and continue wearing it for long-term monitoring.

Beyond watch wearing, participants are asked to fill out various surveys throughout study participation.
